YWCA Richmond House, Richmond
YMCA Richmond House is a woman’s only social housing scheme located in Richmond, Melbourne. The Richmond House has been home to countless woman and deals with housing and provisional shelter to ensure that marginalised and homeless are given an opportunity to participate both socially and economical in society.
The government funded project updated the dilapidated and run down units into 69 fully furnished units all with their own ensuite. The large scale refurbishment gave the six storey block a well needed facelift, ensuring the building stays relevant in the rapidly evolving suburb of Richmond. A focus on future proofing the building both aesthetically and functionally was at the height of concern. Transforming once under utilised bleak spaces into fully functioning areas for community programs.
