Finnis shortlisted for Eat Drink Design Awards

Restaurant Navi has recently been shortlisted in the prestigious national Eat Drink Design Awards for 2018. Designed by Finnis at the beginning of the year, Restaurant Navi is a fine dining restaurant in Yarraville in Melbourne’s West.

The brief asked for an interior fit out that would both reflect Navis ambitions as a restaurant and act as an extension of the dining experience. A relatively small floor area suited the style of restaurant the owner wanted to achieve, an intimate dining experience that would seat 25 people.

The client being an owner/chef added richness and passion to the brief as we aimed to reflect the qualities of Navis’ food. Ingredients would be sourced from local farms and all ceramics and crockery hand made by the owner. In this way a colour palette combining rich materiality and earthy tones seemed fitting. The client grew up on a farm in Melbourne’s East and his love for sustainable and ethical practice drove the design ethos.

The annual Eat Drink Design Awards supports innovation and excellence in the design of hospitality premises of all scales and types, retail environments for the sale of food and beverages and visual identities for both. The program recognises and celebrates Australia and New Zealand’s best projects, rewarding design achievement in seven categories.

Navi has been shortlisted with 18 other projects from around the country with the awards night being held on the 13th of November.
