This year, Finnis hit the ground running by presenting not one, but two projects at the Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Architecture Awards. The awards, which celebrate the very best in built architecture in Victoria were capped off last night at No Vacancy Gallery where the entrants and winners were acknowledged at the public awards exhibition. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to not only reflect, but celebrate the achievements made.
After entering the awards in previous years, this year’s expectations were high. Both the Red Hill Residence and Strathmore Residence were in the running to be crowned Victorian House of the Year. After being invited to present the projects at the opening night of the awards weekend at the Australian Institute of Architects building in the city, it was fantastic to hear the positive feedback from both official judges and fellow architects.
Damon Hills, Associate Director of Finnis, presented both projects to the jury who were especially interested in many of the key design decisions. Both projects told their own unique and compelling stories catering to the individual needs of the clients. Images of the finished projects were shown and the key design features explained whilst the integration of environmentally sustainable design was applauded. Both projects were also considered for their environmental design merits with the Red Hill Residence in particular gaining much admiration for the hidden sustainable elements within the design.
The projects both exemplified the quality of our work as well as the shared passion for design displayed by the entire staff. The night was a great way to thank those involved in the project with the support of our staff, family, and friends. It was also incredibly humbling to hear the many fantastic comments about the design and the overall response to both projects.
Looking back at what were two incredibly successful projects, we would like to thank the entire team including Finnis staff, builders, contractors, interior designers, engineers, planners, and of course our incredible clients who trusted and believed in our designs. We are looking forward to presenting more incredible projects in the future.
